Publisher department issued “Roads of the Jungles” written by Lyudmila Shaposhnikova, who in 1967 was awarded Jawaharlal Nehru International Award.
In 1960s tribes and nations inhabiting Indian peninsula including mountains of East and South-East India were within scientific interests of Lyudmila Shaposhnikova. Tribes, who have been living in hardly accessible mountainous area for a long time, were isolated from the external world and, thus, they have preserved primitive-communal relations and specific culture.
Lyudmila Shaposhnikova was the first Russian scientist, who visited these tribes in 1963–1965 and collected valuable information about their history, culture and mythology as well as about particularities of their tribal structure. The book is written in lively captivating style and is illustrated with author’s photos.
The issue marks the 90th anniversary of Lyudmila Shaposhnikova and is the first of series of republication of her books, dedicated to culture and history of Indian peoples.
International Centre of the Roerichs would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to friends of the non-governmental Museum named after Nicholas Roerich, who took part in financing of the edition.
The book is available at newsstand of the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich and at “Mountain Wind” on-line store.
