President of the Committee for the preservation of the Roerichs Heritage came to India with a working visit








Mr Alexander Losyukov, President of the Committee for the preservation of the Roerichs Heritage visited India by invitation of the Government of Himachal Pradesh for the period February 25 – March 9, 2013 in order to get acquainted with the preservation conditions of the Roerichs Heritage in this friendly to Russia country which became the second Motherland for the Roerichs.

The trip program included visit to the International Roerichs Memorial Trust in Naggar as well as Tataguni – the Roerichs Estate in Bangalore, which is administered by Karnataka State government at present. The working meetings with Shri Virbhadra Singh, the new elected Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr Sudripta Roy, Chief Secretary of the HP administration, and members of the IRMT administration took place in Shimla.

During the meeting at the office of the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Mr A. Losyukov passed on to Mr V. Singh a greeting letter from Ms L. Shaposhnikova, First Vice President of the ICR, Director general of the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich in Moscow, on the occasion of taking up his post. The Chief Minister and the State's administration were informed on tasks and plans of the Committee. The HP administration supported the Committee's plans concerning its participation in the work in India and expressed its readiness for cooperation with the Committee and the ICR in the joint work for the development of the Roerichs Estate in Naggar.

During the meetings with the HP leaders the problems were discussed connected with the necessity to create favorable conditions for the Russian curator and the ICR co-workers who are continuing at the moment their work for recording and preservation of the Roerichs heritage in Naggar. Special attention was paid to the problem of creation a legal basis in order to give the ICR opportunity to render the IRMT financial and organizational support in the framework of implementation of the Concept plan for the IRMT development. All requests and proposals of the Committee were welcomed and supported by the Indian side, which expressed its interest to continue cooperation with Russian NGOs in the work aimed at turning of the IRMT into a modern Museum and Scientific Complex.

After visiting Himachal Pradesh the President of the Committee made a flight to Bangalore where he met with Mr S.V. Ranganath, Chief Secretary of Karnataka State. Chances for the Committee's participation in the work for creation of the Roerichs Memorial Complex on the basis of the Roerichs Estate in Bangalore were discussed during this meeting.

The State government organized for Mr Losyukov visits to Vienkatappa Art Gallery, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat in order to get acquainted with collections of paintings by Nicholas and Svetoslav Roerichs. The Committee President also got opportunity to visit Tataguny Estate which is closed for the public at present.
