A bas-relief to Svetoslav Roerich was opened in Trivandrum, Kerala state capital, India.
On July, 26th, 2012 near the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in Trivandrum there was a gala opening of a bas-relief with a portrait of Svetoslav Roerich, a famous Russian and Indian artist and public cultural figure highly honored in India.

Mr. Ratish Nair, the RCSC director and honored consul of RF in India, Harit Kumar, adviser of city management, S.Radhakrishnan, a famous Indian artist and art-director of cinema, other known public and political and cultural figures of the city and members of the Indian-Russian Society of Friendship took part in the ceremony. The Russian ballet group “Exiton” dancers who are on tour through Indian cities also became honored guests of the holiday.

Opening the bas-relief S.Radhakrishnan stressed: “It is great honor for me, because creative work of Svetoslav Roerich is not only connected with India, it has become strong part of the basis for understanding, interaction and cooperation between cultures of our countries”.

Then Mr.Ratish Nair reminded that in 2004 members of the City Council Mayor of Trivandrum decided unanimously to name the street, where the RCSC is situated, after Svetoslav Roerich. “It is important that this street is the only street in the capital of Kerala state which is named in honor of a representative of other country”, noted the honored consul.

The activity has wide local media coverage, attracted great attention of the state capital public and became an important event in the cultural life of the state capital.
