The International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR) is nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize







The International Centre of the Roerichs is the largest and leading organization in the world for the preservation of cultural heritage on the basis of the ideas of the Roerich Pact - the first international treaty on the protection of cultural objects during the war and in peacetime. This document laid the basic principles of the modern international legal system for the protection of cultural heritage, including UNESCO's key instruments in the sphere of international humanitarian law. Universal peacekeeping idea - Peace through Culture - of outstanding artist and public figure Nicholas Roerich is at the core of the Roerich Pact.

Peacekeeping and humanistic ideas of Nicholas Roerich for over 20 years have been asserted by the International Centre of Roerich at non-governmental level - among the largest public circles. Since 2012 the ICR have been carrying out international educational exhibition project "Roerich Pact. History and modernity." The exhibitions of the project were held in many countries of Europe, Latin America and Asia, including at the UNESCO Headquarters (2012), the UN Office in Geneva (2013), at the Peace Palace in The Hague (2014), at the UN headquarters in New York (2015), the UN Office in Vienna (2015). They were attended by more than 500 thousand people.

The non-governmental International Centre of the Roerichs was founded in 1989 in Moscow by Svetoslav Roerich – a citizen of India, a well-known artist, thinker and public figure, the youngest son of the great Russian artist Nicholas Roerich. The International Centre of the Roerichs has established the largest non-governmental museum in Russia – the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich. The International Centre of the Roerichs is an institutional member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a member of the Pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage “Europa Nostra”, an associate member of the International National Trusts Organization, an associate member of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations; it has a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
