The Day of Roerich Pact in the International Roerich Memorial Trust was celebrated by opening of a unique exhibition of ancient manuscripts from the collection of a scientist and translator Kub Ram Kusdil. The texts of Ramajana and Mahabharata, Vedas, medical treatises and other manuscripts – totally around thirty documents were presented at the exhibition – called forth astonishment and admiration of all the guests.
Eighty-years-old Kub Ram Kusdil who lives not far from Naggar has been collecting rear manuscripts during all his life. Being a scholar of a classical Takri script, he studies ancient texts and translates them into modern languages. Until the late 1940s, Takri was used in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as for some other languages in the Western Himalayas. Nowadays only few people know the Takri script; one of such seldom connoisseurs is Kub Ram Kusdil. His unique collection is a true mine of information for scholars studying the history of India, its culture and tradition.
A well-known Buddhologist Tsering Dorje, who was a honorable guest at this exhibition, highly appreciated long-term work of the scientist and collector. Is his speech he stressed that there will be no future without the past and that we should be very grateful to the people who preserve knowledge and traditions of the past and pass them on to future generations.
