The grand opening of the ICR exhibition «The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity» took place on June 12, 2013 at the Palace of Nations in the UN Office at Geneva. The exhibition is dedicated to the international "Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments" which went down in history as the Roerich Pact and perpetuated the name of its author, a distinguished Russian artist, thinker, humanist and public figure Nicholas Roerich.
The organizers of the exhibition are the International Centre of the Roerichs in association with the Committee for the Preservation of the Roerichs Heritage and Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva with the support of Ministry of Foreifn Affairs of Russia.
The exposition of the exhibition «The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity» includes numerous materials about the origin of the Roerich Pact, unique photos, the richest document material of the ICR Fund, reproductions on canvas paintings of the Master. Part of the exposition is dedicated to the work of Yuri Vorontsov - an outstanding diplomat, advocate of peace and culture who spent last seven years of his life as the President of the ICR and greatly contributed to the popularization of the ideas of the Roerich Pact.
The exhibition was opened by Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Under Secretary-General, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva,a prominent public figure of Kazakhstan /video/. Among the speakers were also Mr. Alexey N. Borodavkin, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and Mr. Alexey V. Postnikov, the President of the International Centre of the Roerichs. David Chikvaidze, Chief Librarian of the United Nations Office at Geneva participated in solemn ceremony of opening «The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity» exhibition.
Members of the diplomatic corps in Geneva, ambassadors, representatives of international non-governmental organizations and Staff of the United Nations Secretariat took part in the events organized during the opening of the exhibition.
The President of The ICR donated the distinctive flag of the Roerich Pact "Banner of Peace" to the United Nations Office and made a donation of rare publications and documents, connected with the history of the Roerich Pact, as well as books published by the ICR to the Library of the Palace of Nations.
The presentation of the film "Call of Cosmic Evolution" by Lyudmila Shaposhnikova, Director General of the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich, dedicated to two famous figures of the XX century ,Nicholas and Helena Roerich, opened before the the exhibition «The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity». For the first time it represents spiritual origins of their outstanding cultural activity: the philosophy of cosmic reality "Living Ethics", Central Asian expedition of the Roerichs, Himalayan Research Institute "Urusvati", the Roerich Pact.
