On October, 20, 2017 in Rabindranath Tagore School in St. Petersburg, Russia the “R. Tagore – Messenger of Indian Culture” Exhibition was opened to commemorate the 60 anniversary of the school. The event was inaugurated by the Consul General of India in St.Petersburg, Mr. Arun Kumar Sharma and Mrs. Sharma, by St. Petersburg Committee on Education, St. Petersburg City Government and Kalininsky Region administration representatives, by scientists and culture public figures.
Elena Shubina, the school head teacher told about the school history, about the program of the school where students learn two languages: Hindi and English. She also spoke about the international activity of the school and about the future plans.
The Consul General of India in St.Petersburg, Mr. Arun Kumar Sharma noted the high level of knowledge of the school students concerning the Indian history, languages, culture and stressed the role of the teachers and school workers who provide the school success.
Eduard Tomsha, the chairman of the St.Petersburg Branch of the International Centre of the Roerichs, told about the “R.Tagore – Messenger of Indian Culture” exhibition, the way it had been created and noted the importance of R. Tagore and Nicholas Roerich’s meeting which became the impulse for R.Tagore to create his paintings. Eduard Tomsha presented “N.Roerich and Spiritual and Historical Heritage of Russia”, the book published by the International Centre of the Roerichs.
The speakers stressed the importance of mutual comprehension of the great cultures of India and Russia for interaction of Russia and India in education, tourist business, culture.
The school students made an excursion for the guests around the school, children made the excursion in three languages, they showed their achievements in Hindi, fitness, sport, drawing.
The celebration was closed with the concert prepared by the school ensembles.
